COFFEE SHOP PHILOSOPHY Adam Irving

Coffee Shop Philosophy is a collection of poetry from regular northwest event performer Irving, entwining acute observations, style, opinion and humour.
Including the earnest Will Someone Just Have an Opinion, the heartfelt Manchester and the eponymous Coffee Shop Philosophy, these poems span the years 1999-2002 and were written (as the title suggests) in a multitude of cafés over a fine coffee.
Edited by Carl Pownall, this collection is Irving's first from Mucusart Publications. It follows the successful droplifting at the turn of the century of such titles as How Bainbridge Won His Ears, I Was Born Deep in the City in a Bag of Crisps, The Fury of Seagulls and The Boy Who Cried Wilf.

Life doesn't come in bite-size nuggets
It is not shrink wrapped
or cut up into digestible chunks

You have to get your fingers greasy to appreciate it
All cannot be idly picked at with a fork
and it can go stale

The plate is never big enough
there's always more to make room for
There are bits that are messy
and those you'll need a spoon for

"This collection shows someone with a lively mind who can be profound without pretension, witty without being groan-worthy, and above all, entertaining," City Life
